Christopher Fernandes, MS, AMFT

Christopher is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #130336) under the clinical supervision of Terra Schmid, LMFT. He holds a Master’s in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). His clinical experience includes providing psychotherapy at SLO Counseling Services at Cal Poly, the Wellness Center at Atascadero High School, and private practices such as Aronsen Counseling Services and Coast Therapy Associates. 

He uses a client-centered, humanistic approach to help clients uncover their inner strengths, embrace their authentic selves, cultivate meaningful relationships, and develop a deep sense of well-being. His therapeutic style integrates existential, humanistic, attachment-based, mindfulness-based, cognitive, behavioral, and gestalt techniques. He collaborates with clients to provide dynamic support tailored to their individual needs and goals. Known for his gentle, non-pathologizing, and compassionate approach, he fosters a safe and supportive environment for his clients.

He works with a variety of mental health symptoms, diagnoses, and life stressors—including anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, career stress, school stress, burnout, life transitions, low self-esteem, and existential crises.

He is committed to inclusivity. He is an LGBTQIA+ ally, providing a safe space for individuals who identify as gay, queer, trans, or gender non-conforming. He supports clients exploring their sexual, gender, or personal identity. As a BIPOC ally, Christopher offers a safe environment to explore and process the impact of systemic racism and cultural injustices, supporting individuals navigating oppressive systems, regardless of their identity or background.
