Does SculpSure Damage Muscle?

does sculpsure damage muscle

SculpSure is a non-invasive body contouring technology that uses a laser to destroy fat cells. The dead fat cells are removed naturally by your body.  8-12 weeks after the procedure, you’ll see a reduction in those pesky bulges without using needles or surgery.

Will SculpSure Damage Muscle If There Isn’t Enough Fat?

SculpSure uses a laser to heat up and destroy fat cells while it cools the skin in the treatment area to maintain maximum comfort during treatment. The laser energy is tuned to target fat cells and does not damage surrounding tissues or nerves.  Fat cells absorb and retain most of the laser energy, causing the fat cells to reach the intended temperature without heating up the surrounding tissue. Remember that muscle grows below your fat layer.  As long as there are fat cells to absorb the laser energy, the laser will never reach the muscle layers.  If there is insufficient fat in the treatment area, however, other tissues can get damage.

Does SculpSure Need a Minimum Amount of Body Fat to Work?

If there insufficient fat under the SculpSure applicator, the treatment can damage the underlying tissue, including the muscles. The treatment area needs to have a “pinch-able” amount of fat. For this reason, your doctor should properly evaluate the area before applying SculpSure. Healthy Living Primary Care’s Dr. Liu has undergone specific training to be able to quickly determine if an area is right for SculpSure.

How Does SculpSure Laser Targeting Work?

The SculpSure applicator lays directly on the surface of the skin of the area you’re treating. It uses a 1064nm wavelength laser to heat the fat cells beneath the surface. The laser penetrates up to 2-3cm below your skin to target the fat cells. This type of laser (1064nm length), combined with the patented method the energy is delivered, heats up and kills the fat cells damaging any of the surrounding tissues, nerves, or hair follicles.

While it’s heating, it’s also cooling the skin surface in the area so that you’re comfortable throughout the treatment. Most patients feel a deep warmth and/ or tingling sensation intermittently throughout the treatment which is generally well-tolerated.
